Meet Becky

Staying active helps Becky improve her mobility

Becky from Melton

Becky is a disabled ambulatory wheelchair user, meaning she can't stand or walk for long periods of time. She also has multiple health conditions, such as Fibromyalgia, which causes chronic pain, fatigue, and depression.

Despite this, Becky's mindset remains positive, and she continues to stay physically active. Becky loves to swim, as being in warm water is when she is in the least amount of pain.

In January 2022, Becky discovered (and instantly fell in love with) PureStretch, a hybrid of yoga, pilates and stretching to music. The weekly sessions help Becky improve her mobility issues, and she looks forward to the sessions every week. Without the weekly sessions, Becky believes she would rapidly decling, and would likely be unable to move.

Becky has an assistance dog in training called Ralph, who has increased her need to move. Having Ralph means Becky has to get up and walk around the house in order to let him out, as well as take him on dog walks. Whilst on walks, Becky is able to meet other dog walkers, reducing loneliness and improving her mental wellbeing.

Becky is passionate about supporting others with their physical and emotional wellbeing, and understands how anxiety, depression, pain and fatigue can take a toll. To help others in her area, she manages two Facebook support pages, and hosts a meeting once a month for local residents to get together, share their thoughts and catch up with each other. She never wants anyone to feel alone or without support due to their physical or mental condition, and wants to share her story to inspire residents in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to move more each day.
