Meet Vix

Vix uses physical activity to help her overcome the challenges she faces and improve her mental wellbeing

Vix from Hinckley & Bosworth

Vix enjoyed horse riding and karate in her youth, but unfortunately had a severe accident at the age of 18, affecting her ability to horse-ride and maintain her health and fitness. 11 years later, at the age of 29, Vix was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Only 6 months prior to her diagnosis, Vix enjoyed regular walks and 12 mile hikes while on holiday with her friends; fast forward a year, she adopted a pair of crutches and experienced a lot of pain in her hips and back. Walking and standing eventually became unbearable, and Vix soon found herself having to use a mobility scooter, all before the age of 37.

Vix had lost motivation and her hopes of being active again were slim, but during the 2012 Paralympics, she had a 'Wow' moment and felt inspired by an athlete competing with MS, and thought "if she could do it, so could I!".

Following the advice of her MS physiotherapist, Vix started Aqua Aerobics sessions. The heated pool was able to help take some of Vix's bodyweight, making it easier to exercise. Soon after, she joined yoga and specialised MS exercises classes, which helped her fall back in love with physical activity.

Vix's world has now reopened, her confidence and motivation is back, and now she wants to share her story with those in a similar position, and help encourage them to follow in her footsteps.
