About Marsh Wood

An 11.1ha woodland adjacent to Smisby and the Ashby Bypass, the focus of Marsh Wood is the provision of wet woodland and other wetland habitats that favour wetland birds such as snipe, curlew and redshank.

The adjacent open grassland is managed under Countryside Stewardship for ground nesting birds and a bird hide enables visitors to watch the different species visiting the site. Scrapes and ponds provide additional habitat for insects and amphibians.

Mediaeval ridge and furrow grassland and a deserted settlement area have been left as open grassland to preserve these archaeological features.

Access is closed for one month during the bird nesting season. Check notices during this period.
