Be More Diane

I have been away from the Champion scene for a little while due to the sudden, unexpected and tragic passing of my mum Diane 3 weeks ago. We as a family lived a nightmare for 2 weeks after she contracted an infection on holiday in Devon which lead to sepsis and severe complications.

Over the past few weeks I have experienced so many physical and mental effects of grief that have affected my motivation to keep active. The tiredness, the sadness, the physical symptoms such as headaches, nausea, body aches.

But, thanks to work, I am finding that it is keeping active that is helping me through this hideous time. My mum was a very special lady, who had the ability to remain practical and focused in even the hardest of times. Because of this, I am trying to #bemorediane and focus each day on making small, positive steps. Because of my profession, I of course have to be active.

This week is my first full week back at work, and I can honestly say that running my classes has given me such a boost. We all know exercise gets those endorphins going. It gives you a natural mental and physical boost. Not only that, but the support and love from my clients has lifted me. I am a very open person and I will never shy away from talking about things that may make others feel uncomfortable and it has created the most supportive and open environment.

There is no blueprint for grieving, but if you find yourself in a similar position to me, I can give you 3 pieces of advice:

- Keep talking and sharing

- Keep moving

- Be more Diane

I know this is going to be a long road, and it has changed my life journey a little, but it won't change me for the worse because I won't let it.
