Meet Hayley

Hayley wants to encourage as many people as possible to be active outdoors!

Hayley from Charnwood

Hayley's love for outdoor adventures started at the age of 9, where her dad took her on a kayaking trip, and she's not put down the paddle since! As her passion for the water grew stronger, Hayley moved to Devon to study Outdoor Pursuits and Management.

In 2000, whilst working in Shrewsbury at an Outdoor Activity Centre, Hayley was involved in a serious incident, which unfortunately resulted in her breaking her back. Following the injury, Hayley moved back to Leicester, and underwent a long physio/recovery process, as she had to learn how to walk again.

After many months of physio, Hayley was able to stand un-aided, and eventually walk again. She is now able to get back into a kayak and enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. Following her recovery, Hayley re-trained as a wilderness therapeutic practitioner and taught in a Special Education school. She also became a leader at scouts and encourages the children to enjoy water sports and being active outdoors.

Hayley now regularly takes part in activities at the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre, and has plans to mentor, coach and support others whilst being active outdoors. Hayley's dream is to help as many people as possible from all walks of life to get involved in outdoor activities and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

Do you want to be active like Hayley?
