Sharks snap up a place in the national finals

Leicester Sharks Competitive Swimming Club has scooped a place in the Arena Junior Inter-League national semi-finals after a nail-biting finish in the regional final on Saturday evening (12th September).

The Club, which has recently secured a three-year sponsorship deal with logistics company, Premier Logistics near Coalville, earned a hard fought second place behind Northampton Swimming Club, to go through to the northern national semi-final in Birmingham on 4th October.

The win puts Leicester Sharks in the top 12 swimming clubs in the country in the 9 to 12-year-old age group.

As well as earning a spot at the nationals, the Sharks seized two competition records in the ten and under girls' freestyle relay and the 8x1 length mixed freestyle relay races.

Judy Leader, Leicester Sharks' chairperson said "We have made it through to the Nuneaton and Bedworth regional final, narrowly missing out on a place at the nationals for the last four consecutive years. But this year we pulled out the stops! On Saturday night our swimmers were fantastic, our supporters were in fine voice (and since, a little hoarse!) and our Director of Swimming, Guy Worrow, and his coaching team have done an amazing job to get us through to the national semi-final of the premier junior swimming league in the U.K.

"This result is so very well deserved and placed us amongst the best in the country. The whole Club is buzzing and we'll be looking to take advantage of this to encourage our younger swimmers and entice others to try out our Club.

Ron Brewin, president of the Leicestershire Amateur Swimming Association (LASA) said "This is a fantastic result for Leicestershire swimming and shows that we are nurturing local talent that can compete with the best, on a national level.

"It's great to see a Leicestershire club in the 2015 final of this prestigious event and we are supporting the Sharks all the way."

Leicester Sharks, train at Lutterworth, Enderby and New Parks Leisure Centres offers swimming for children of all ages from 'Learn to Swim' programmes right up to senior level.
