Helping Communities to be Active

Helping communities to get moving has many benefits, these may include improving health and wellbeing, reducing isolation and loneliness, providing positive activities and creating support networks.

Communities can come in all shapes and sizes and mean different things to different people, for example it could be a neighbourhood, a workplace or a group of people.

There are many groups, organisations and individuals that work in and support communities – these can play an important part in getting people and leading a healthier lifestyle.

This section will support groups, workplaces, care settings and individuals to creative active and healthy communities.

The Campaign Supporter's Hub is there for organisations to access and utilise branded assets, alongside their own, to collectively encourage more people across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to become active.

The Get Active Search Engine and Club/Organisation/Venue Directory helps local residents find a range of physical activity, sport and wellbeing opportunities across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, including clubs/groups, parks/open spaces and activity sessions near them. Ensure you are promoting your organisation and opportunities by visiting our 'Promote your Club/Organisation/Venue page'.

The A-Z of Sport & Physical Activity provides information about a particular activity/sport, including the ways to get involved, local news, events/courses, campaigns, programmes and further information.

We have a role to support local healthcare professionals to learn more about how physical activity can make a difference, improve people's lives and our Active Medicine section signposts to local information and opportunities to support this.

The places we live, work, learn and play all have a crucial role in influencing our activity levels. Our Active Places section provides dedicated support through the new Healthy Placemaking website (coming soon) for planning authorities and developers and support for Schools and Organisations.
