Blaby District Inclusive Walking Football

Blaby District Council has been working with Leicestershire and Rutland County F.A to provide inclusive opportunities for participants to get or stay active. Walking football is a fantastic opportunity to get active whilst socialising with friends and local residents.

Every Wednesday from 2:00-3:00pm a Walking Football Club takes place at Holmes Park Whetstone. Faye from Leicestershire and Rutland County F.A delivers the sessions and helps participants to learn and understand the rules.
Just some of the benefits of the programme include:

  • Helps promote physical activity and well being
  • Has helped to prevent diabetes for one participant
  • Helps a visually impaired person participate in physical activity
  • Provides an opportunity for participants to socialise
  • Provides a rehabilitation opportunity for injured playersThe session sees between ten and twelve participants that regularly attend. Since achieving good numbers on a regular basis the participants have formed a good friendship with each other and often stay after the session to socialise in the clubhouse and have a hot drink. Furthermore three members that regularly attend have decided to take the club on themselves and run it for the foreseeable future!
