Loughborough University named 'University of the Year'

Loughborough University has claimed the crown of 'University of the Year' in The Times and Sunday Times Good University of the Year award.

Loughborough has secured glory due to the incredible performances of their alumni at this summer's Olympics and Paralympics in Rio, where Team GB recorded historic performances to take the world by storm.

The university campus is the chosen training area of many of Team GB's biggest stars, with Jonnie Peacock and Adam Peaty just two of the many athletes who use the university to prepare.

The university has also risen up the rankings to 11th in the annual league table, whilst it was also nominated for the prestigious 'University of the Year' award, becoming the most shortlisted of all time.

University Vice Chancellor Professor Robert Allison welcomed the award, saying:

"It is good to see Loughborough's vital role in the Olympics and Paralympics recognised. We are incredibly proud of our sporting heritage. Our sporting ethos lies at the very heart of the University and has helped create an environment that motivates everyone to be the very best they can be."
