StreetGames

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport 2015/16 Annual Review

Leicester City Council has been working in partnership with StreetGames, a national charity that brings sport to the doorstep of disadvantaged communities.
Through the power of sport, the StreetGames Network aims to changes lives, change sport and change communities.

StreetGames helps over 600 community organisations across the UK. In Leicester over the last 12 months the council have helped to establish five doorstep sports clubs, engaging approximately 200 young people each week. Sport and physical activity is delivered at a time that is right for the young people, at a place where they want to participate, in a style that is right for them and at a price that they are willing to pay. Empowering the young people in this way has been hugely successful for these clubs.

A number of young people have been so inspired by their experience at these clubs that they are now willing to give back to the clubs by becoming sports leaders themselves. Sixteen young people from across the city have recently been trained to lead sport and physical activity sessions and are now delivering back to their peers.

"The course was an amazing experience for me. I learnt so much and feel a lot more confident in delivering sessions. I would recommend to any young person to grab this opportunity to develop their skills." Amir, Participant
