What are the costs of wellbeing at work?

With 491,100 people currently in employment across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland (LLR), the number of working days lost across LLR is in the region of 2.1m a year (4.3 days per person). Taking the median cost of absence of £522 per employee, absenteeism could be costing the LLR economy up to £265.4m annually. Average absence has increased most in the public sector where it is almost 50% higher than in the private sector and is considerably higher within larger organisations.

It can be hard for organisations to understand the reasons behind high absenteeism and where to prioritise investment to tackle it. LRS have created a shortened, localised version of the national Workplace Health Needs Assessment developed by Public Health England and Healthy Working Futures to support local organisations to identify areas of concern within the health and wellbeing of their staff. Organisations are provided with a specific link to survey staff and are provided with a comprehensive report including analysed data, recommendations and signposting to local providers in each field.

The Wellbeing @ Work package is currently available to organisations across LLR free of charge.
