Positive Activity Referral Scheme

The referral scheme provides a physical activity and sport pathway for young people and families to improve physical activity levels and self-efficacy. The scheme also supported participants to make subtle changes in their behaviour to maximise their chances of maintaining an active lifestyle. The 12-week referral programme in partnership with the Supporting Leicestershire Families team provided a bespoke service to meet each individual's needs. The scheme has worked with local leisure providers and sports clubs to provide an extensive physical activity and sport offer.

Throughout the year we have engaged with 8 families, all of which have seen an improvement in their physical activity levels and self-efficacy. We have used physical activity and sport to help a young male re-engage in education after not attending school for over a year. He has also joined a local badminton club and plays regularly. This was achieved through supporting a change in his behaviour to increase his confidence and self esteem.

We have also provided support to help a young person reform a relationship with their parents and a family to overcome anxiety issues. They are now able to leave the house and participate in activities such as dance and swimming.

"The project has assisted a young person to develop his confidence, wellbeing and helped him to positively manage his emotions. He is now leading a healthier lifestyle and has followed his GPs advice to lose weight." Youth Worker, Supporting Leicestershire Families
