Plans for new £1m pavilion agreed in Oadby & Wigston

Council's approval of the application gives the greenlight for a £1m investment to create a modern purpose-built facility which will benefit a wide range of sports and community groups as well as improving the general area for nearby residents.

The new pavilion will replace the existing dated building which is near the end of its natural life and will provide a community facility for similar activities and a wide range of additional services. The building will provide modern changing facilities for local sports clubs, a nursery for pre-school and a new meeting room and main hall which will be offered out for hire.

Central to the application, careful consideration has been given to the look of the new pavilion with materials and style to be in keeping with the residential nature of the surrounding area. The brickwork and roofing material will be in colours sympathetic with the residential properties nearby. The fascias, soffits and windows are to be moss green aluminium to link in with the open space and a natural wood tone cladding will ensure this pleasing natural theme continues.

The new building will be larger than the existing building and the scheme will include improved parking provision.

The work on the new pavilion is expected to start at the end of November this year.

Oadby & Wigston Borough Councillor Lee Bentley, who has been a long-time champion of the project said:

"This is a fantastic opportunity to bring up to date sport and community facilities to the Borough and local area. The changing room facilities will provide resources for a wide range of sporting activities on Horsewell Lane sports field and will be a vast improvement on what we had before. The users of the sports field, especially the football clubs couldn't use the existing facilities as they were just not adequate or appropriate, whereas the new ones will provide great facilities."
