Loughborough University Celebrates Talent & Innovation at the Enterprise Awards 2019!

The talent and innovation of projects and businesses at Loughborough University were recognised and celebrated at the Enterprise Awards this week.

These highly skilled individuals and teams are all based within the sporting ecosystem which exists within the Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park.

Here are some of the stories from sports businesses/projects leading the way with their innovation.

Together we are finding new ways to tackle gun and knife crime, road traffic accidents, flood damage, global food and energy security. We are preventing serious head injuries in sport, improving the quality of life of spinal cord injured people, and helping young people develop invaluable life skills.

Impact

Our researchers partner a wide-range of external organisations to deliver far-reaching economic, social and cultural benefit. Over 5,000 individual votes were cast to choose the winner, a Pioneering map-matching algorithms enhance network-level crash mapping – reducing congestion and improving safety.

Commercial potential

New innovations arising from excellent research with the potential for far-reaching societal and economic benefit. The Winner in this category was FloodMap Live, a unique real-time, street-level flood prediction solution developed to save lives and livelihoods worldwide.

Partnership

Enduring, multi-faceted collaborations that benefit the partner, the University and the wider external environment. Rolls-Royce UTC were the winners in this category, From humble beginnings to a UK National Centre – partnership grows from strength to strength.

Outstanding potential

Two special awards were made to recognise the outstanding achievements of two companies founded by recent Loughborough graduates.

Having benefitted from experiencing first-hand the entrepreneurial ecosystem at MIT where they participated on an exchange, Alex Nash (Alcuris) and Chris Ruddock (INCUS Performance) started developing their businesses during their final year studying Product Design Engineering. Their potential was recognised through the University's business idea competition and, having graduated with first-class degrees, they launched their businesses on LUSEP, the University Science and Enterprise Park in 2016.

With an Innovation Award from Innovate UK initiating the start-up process, fast forward to May 2019 and they have raised in excess of £2M investment and created 25 highly skilled technical jobs, rising to 32 by the end of this year.
