Not Forgotten This Winter

Age UK Leicester-Shire & Rutland have launched a new initiative of "Not forgotten This Winter" to encourage and highlight the services available to older people within the area who may need support during this time.

Winter has always been a tough season for older people but this year has created even more barriers to allowing socialisation and community for this population. That is why Age UK Leicester-Shire & Rutland want to share stories of those they have supported through a variety of services on social media platforms to further increase their reach, as we know that there will be many more people who may need support now more than ever.

There are a variety of services available, including:

  • Last Orders project (Alcohol & Substance Awareness)
  • Loneliness Prescription Service
  • Think Digital
  • Befriending and Mentoring
  • Joining Forces project (offers support to aged veterans)
  • Food with Friendship
  • Activities & Classes

We all want to ensure that every older person has access to practical and emotional support to ensure they know that we care, especially over the Christmas period. And these essential services provide a lifeline for vulnerable older people. Therefore, Age UK need urgent assistance to ensure that they can keep supporting our local older people for as long as necessary...

Perhaps this is a great opportunity to share these local opportunities via social media or with friends and family so more people are aware of what is available for those struggling at the moment through the pandemic and winter.

If you would like to donate to support their services you can click here to go to their fundraising page.
