Drowning Prevention Week 2022

The campaign is designed to explore a multitude of opportunities to proactively raise awareness of water safety ahead of a summer outdoors. Starting in May, through the summer, the risk to the public through accidental drowning increases significantly - Drowning Prevention Week, from 18 -25 June, is critical in raising awareness and encouraging the public to enjoy water safely.

The Royal Life Saving Society UK has been caring for families for over 130-years and is encouraging everybody that can to do their little bit this summer!

Help The Royal Life Saving Society do even better this year, in 2021:

  • 36 MILLION PEOPLE were potentially reached through articles in the mainstream press
  • 100,000+ PEOPLE saw their best-performing social media post on Facebook
  • 250,000+ SCHOOL CHILDREN were educated in water safety using free downloadable school resources

Easy ways to get involved

  • Get digital - digitally sharing key water safety messaging, based around the water safety code. Use your social media and other digital channels to positively engage in your community. Free video and images resources can be downloaded below
  • Run DPW activities - do you have connections with leisure centres, pools, swim schools, activity providers or clubs? The RLSS are firming up a guide for a variety of activities in an aquatic setting.
  • Education in Schools - this year, following expansive work with a variety of water safety partners, RLSS have thematic lessons available for those aged 5 -11, supplementing our existing variety of school resources, across the age groups. Can you share with or deliver education in schools? Consisting of 'theme week' lesson plans and materials, including resources specifically for PE lessons, the materials have been designed to bring your classroom to life whilst helping to engage young people with essential water safety lessons. Join The Royal Life Saving Society in making sure we safeguard young people this summer, giving them the skills to have fun near water.
