Thriving Communities and Accelerating Innovation present: Financial wellbeing and social prescribing

Thriving Communities and Accelerating Innovation present a joint webinar exploring what we mean by financial wellbeing, why it matters to how people feel and function, and how social prescribing can make a difference. The webinar will look at how organisations in the sector can work with each other and social prescribing effectively, and how a London-based partnership project is testing an innovative response to people's financial and health support needs.

What is Thriving Communities?
Thriving Communities is a national support programme for voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise groups, supporting communities impacted by COVID19 in England, working alongside social prescribing link workers.

Through networks, blogs, resources and webinars Thriving Communities enables communities to share learning, gain new ideas, access funding and develop partnerships across sectors.

It is run by the National Academy for Social Prescribing, an organisation dedicated to the advancement of social prescribing through promotion, collaboration and innovation.

What is Accelerating Innovation?
Accelerating Innovation is a new initiative that supports national voluntary organisations to develop social prescribing with new ideas and ways of extending reach to address health inequalities.

At the heart of the programme is a Community of Practice which brings together national voluntary organisations to forge connections with health and social care systems and work closely with local communities to develop activities and services that work for local people.

It is a partnership between National Academy for Social Prescribing, Royal Voluntary Service and NHS England and NHS Improvement.

What will you learn?
This webinar will explore the context of financial wellbeing provision: what is out there at the moment and the impact Covid-19 has had on different people and communities; the links between financial wellbeing and overall wellbeing; and how social prescribing can work more effectively in this area to help people. We will also hear from Financial Shield, an innovative pilot project working in London testing new responses to people's financial and health support needs.

Who is it for?
Anyone in the VCFSE who is interested in how financial wellbeing and social prescribing intersect and can benefit people's wellbeing.

Anyone who works in financial wellbeing and is interested to find out how social prescribing can complement and enhance the reach of their work.

Who will be speaking?

  • Chair: Ingrid Abreu Scherer, Head of Accelerating Innovation, National Academy for Social Prescribing
  • Dawn Cummins, Money and Pensions Service
  • Damon Gibbons, Financial Shield
