What do the sessions include?
- bricklaying
- carpentry
- painting
- plumbing
- plastering
All the trades are taught by Leicester City Council's qualified tradeswomen in the housing team. The course aims to encourage women to apply for the apprenticeship scheme.
Every year, Leicester City Council work in partnership with Leicester College to promote the free course for women in construction. The college allows them to take over the construction department where LCC's qualified trade's women teach the courses. This is a joint effort to encourage more women into the construction industry.
As part of this free course, the college also offer 10-week free courses in some of the trades for women that have attended the council's construction course.
When and where will the courses be held?
Women In Construction 2022 will be held from 14-18 February at Leicester College, Freemans Park Campus (LE2 7LW). Leicester City Council will offer half-day taster courses in plumbing, painting and decorating, tiling and carpentry.
