The Virtual National Forest Trek 2024

The Virtual National Forest Trek 2024 is a physical walking or running challenge, which tracks progress digitally along an interactive map of the 75-mile national forest way. Participants walk as little or as far as they like and as often as they like. They are not following a real route or joining an in person organised mass participation event. The overall aim is to complete 75 miles in their own time and in a place of their choosing – from their own front door.

What is actually involved?

  • The Virtual National Forest Trek 2024 is a physical walking or running challenge, which tracks progress digitally along an interactive map of the 75-mile national forest way.
  • Participants walk as little or as far as they like and as often as they like. They are not following a real route or joining an in person organised mass participation event. The overall aim is to complete 75 miles in their own time and in a place of their choosing – from their own front door.
  • Each time they go for a walk, they can login and add their milage. This will then move an icon along the interactive map – allowing them to track their progress along the 75 mile virtual national forest way.
  • At the point of sign up, an individual can create, or join an existing, team. If they are part of a team, they will also be able to track the progress of other team members on the map – so it's competitive but in a friendly way.
  • Those taking part receive 12 x emails about the 12 x stages of the real life national forest way, with each email unlocked after they virtually complete a stage by logging their miles on the interactive map.
  • Upon completion (hitting the 75 mile mark) they also receive a digital certificate.

It's about exploring footpaths and trails near you, but also just walking anywhere which is accessible or where the participant is comfortable walking, the main aim is to complete the 75 miles in your own time and on your own terms.

It's completely free of charge to enter.
