About Strategic Lead - Football & Multi Sport

Multi-sport is a key priority as part of Uniting the Movement, Sport England's strategy which the Active Partnerships network is playing a crucial role in delivering. As part of this multi-sport commitment, up to £224 million of Government funding is being invested into football facilities for 2022-25 through the Football Foundation and a minimum of 40% of that investment is required to benefit other sports.

We are therefore seeking a strategic lead who will focus on supporting our Active Partnership network to activate football and multi-sport community sites through influencing policy, distributing funds, and working closely with National Governing Bodies and other key stakeholders to develop positive and sustainable relationships.

The successful candidate, through working with colleagues, including local Active Partnerships, will ultimately be helping to ensure that local communities have more access to places to play football and other sports in their local area.

The Strategic Lead will also work closely with the APNO's Multi-Sport Programme Manager, the regional leads based across the Active Partnerships network, and the Active Environments lead. The role holder will also need to work closely with key partners including the Active Partnerships from across the network who will help deliver the fund locally, the Football Foundation, the LTA Parks Tennis, England Hockey, and Sport England.

The latter invested £8 million of National Lottery funding across a four-year period to create the Multi-Sport Activity and Facilities Fund which will provide revenue funding to deliver multi-sport activity and some small-scale capital test and learn investment, and the Strategic Lead for Football and Multi-Sport will oversee this fund as part of their role.

A key objective of the fund is to activate PlayZones and other Football Foundation 3G or grass pitches, parks (Lawn Tennis Association Parks Tennis) and artificial grass pitch sites (England Hockey) in targeted areas.
