Active Dorset are one of 43 Active Partnerships across England. We work collaboratively to create the conditions for an active nation and use the power of sport and physical activity to transform lives. The Active Partnerships national team is the improvement and innovation agency that leads, supports and represents Active Partnerships. The team is focused on learning what works locally and driving collaboration and impact across the network.

Active Dorset takes a collaborative approach to embed system changes so that business as usual for system partners supports people to be more active.
We want sport and physical activity to be recognised for the positive impact it has through improved physical and mental wellbeing, educational attainment, social cohesion and economic development on the lives of the people in Dorset. We want Dorset to be a place where people choose to enjoy an active lifestyle through participation in sport and physical activity.

We will achieve this by using high quality advice and advocacy to support change in systems and behaviours amongst leaders, organisations and individuals. Being active will be the normal choice for people in Dorset.

In order to achieve its ambitions Active Dorset CIC are looking for a number of individuals to take on the role of Board Members/Directors.

About the role

• This is a voluntary role, and will require a commitment of several hours a month. Expenses however will be paid
• We are looking for individuals to take effective leadership and management of the business of Active Dorset CIC
• The ability to collaborate with other board members and CEO to meet the governance requirements of Active Dorset
• Promote and working as an advocate of the role and objectives of Active Dorset CIC
• Build and maintain working relationships with a range of key partners and stakeholders from the public, private and third sectors.

About you

• Our ideal candidate will have strong leadership and motivational skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build partnerships at all levels
• Ability to contribute to discussions at board discussions and to think creatively
• Effective decision maker
• Have an interest or understanding of the sport/physical activity landscape
• Strong communications skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills
• Demonstrable ability and confidence to represent the organisation at public events and in the media
• Demonstrate the importance of equality and diversity
• An understanding of the third sector and an ability to work within it
• Understanding of and willingness to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to prepare and attend board meetings
