About Primary School Sports Coach and Active Learning Lead

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable and confident individual to be our sports coach in order to deliver a range of PE lessons, sporting activities and active learning activities across the curriculum to classes and smaller groups of children. These activities take place throughout the school day including at playtimes, children's lunchbreaks and during after school clubs. Applicants should have relevant experience and/or qualifications to demonstrate their ability to deliver PE lessons as well as having excellent behaviour management skills. Our school is developing approaches to integrate active learning to meet all pupils' needs by carefully adapting the planned curriculum across different subjects in such a way that all children get the same curriculum entitlement. This is part of the role.

The successful candidate will deliver PE, sports, play and active learning activities to children from ages 4 to 11. They must also be able to be patient, inspirational and inclusive in their work with pupils. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to be organised and pro-active and seek to forge good working relationships with parents and other staff working at Loxley and in other schools and agencies. Part of the role is also to evidence learning, share good practice with colleagues and keep records on pupil participation and progress. There will also be times when the successful candidate will be required to work at other friendly and welcoming local schools in the academy particularly Bradfield Dungworth Primary School however the great majority of time in the role will be spent at Loxley Primary School.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for supervising children at off-site sporting events and competitions. Working hours will be 8:30 to 3:30pm excluding the candidate's breaks, Monday pm to Friday, term time only. Additional hours built in to the contract are allocated for out of hours sporting events e.g. after school clubs.

The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to equal opportunities, tackling disadvantage and safeguarding pupils.

Our school can offer you:

  • pupils who love PE
  • exceptionally well managed learning behaviours across school
  • experienced, able, friendly and co-operative colleagues
  • expansive and inspiring school grounds
  • a school ethos where we all aim high together

The role offers great opportunities for the successful candidate in terms of career and professional development at an outstanding school with a track record of providing outstanding physical learning opportunities for pupils. The job also offers some scope for the successful candidate to be innovative and take a degree of ownership over their duties whilst adhering to school policies. Roles like this do not come up very often at primary schools and we hope an ambitious, collegiate, hard-working and enthusiastic candidate is out there who can take on this role with gusto.

Candidates are warmly welcomed and strongly encouraged to come and look around our school.

Application forms and further details are available from the school office or by emailing enquiries@loxley.sheffield.sch.uk. Completed applications should be returned for the attention of Margaret Helliwell by post or by email to the school address (see above).
