Melton & Belvoir race to victory in the Go-Ride Cycling Super-Series Final

9 Teams from across Leicestershire, Leicester City & Rutland, took part in the first ever Go-Ride Cycling Super-Series Finals on the 22nd June 2016.

In the first competition of the day, 6 partnerships were represented in the Year 5/6 competition. The schools began with a 'cycle cross' race which they would race for a best possible time. This consisted of uphill and downhill routes. Melton & Belvoir (Stathern Primary) came out on top with the best time for this part. The schools then made their way to the 'Italian Pursuit' race which again they were racing for their best time against one another. This was started with a North v South Charnwood rivalry which saw the North side of Charnwood come out on top!

Overall it was Melton & Belvoir (Stathern Primary) who couldn't be beat which meant they took home the gold medals. Runners up were North West Leicestershire (Sir John Moore) who finished second only beating the team in third on time difference! This meant North Charnwood (Outwoods Edge) finished in third position.

The second competition of the day was the Year 7/8, which saw 3 partnerships compete. The same format of the Year 5/6 competition was followed, with the cycle cross race first, resulting in again Melton & Belvoir (John Ferneley) coming out with the quickest time. The Italian Pursuit was then a very competitive race due to their only being 3 teams in the running.

Overall it was Melton & Belvoir (John Ferneley) which took home the gold medals and capped of a very successful day. Runners up were South Charnwood (Rawlins Academy) who finished second and Hinckley & Bosworth (Heathfield Academy) finished in third position.

The 'Spirit of the Games' trophy was awarded to North Charnwood (Outwoods Edge) in the Year 5/6 competition and Hinckley & Bosworth (Heathfield Academy) in the Year 7/8 competition The organisers collectively believed that this school best showed the values in which the "School Games" represents - Determination, Honesty, Passion, Respect, Self-Belief and Teamwork.

Mark Threlfall, member of the British Triathlon Elite Multisport Squad, and Grace Garner, School Games Ambassador and current road cyclist for UK Team Podium Ambition attended the event to inspire the young athletes who participated and support with the Award Ceremonies.

The Super-Series Final saw 7 Year 5/6 & 7/8 girls and boys representing each partnership team, which was kindly hosted by Brooksby Melton College.
