Beginners Running Group Leader of the Year

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport 2015/16 Annual Review

In 2015/16 960 new participants accessed the Beginners Running Programme. Eighteen new run leaders have been trained over the last year and the scheme currently has over 55 Beginners Running Groups.

Rob Beers was crowed 'Run England Group Leader of the Year' at the Regional England Athletics Awards, recognising the commitment and dedication he has given to the Beginners Running Programme. Rob has taken Melton Running Club from strength to strength. Supported by individuals from Stilton Striders, Rob has co-ordinated popular free Beginners Running sessions, providing the warmest of welcomes to everyone regardless of their prior running experience.

With the winning formula of regular Couch to 5k Programmes and a friendly group of like-minded runners to keep everyone motivated, it was no surprise that Rob saw a record attendance in January welcoming an amazing 85 new runners in one evening. Rob has been a true role model for so many new runners dishing out encouragement, advice and even running with people in their debut races.

"Everyone is an achiever and Melton Running Club promotes a friendly and inclusive place to all. Our achievements range from this year's Equinox 24 winner to a lady who lost 90lbs in five months!"
