Football beats weather as the Team Leicestershire football finals come to a close

The county School's football season came to a close on Tuesday evening as the Team Leicestershire finals finally took place.

After adverse weather conditions had disrupted previous final dates, the sun finally played ball in providing a perfect afternoon for four finals to go ahead at the University of Leicester.

There had already been victory in the Year 9 final for Thomas Estley College after they beat Newbridge High School 5-1 at the latter's home ground. But with neither side represented in the other four finals, new names were destined to be added to the long list of Team Leicestershire victors.

Run in partnership with the Leicestershire and Rutland Schools Football Association, all four matches showed a high calibre of talent across each team, with sides picking up victories along the way to reach the coveted final two.

The wins went to: Brookvale High School, Woodbrook Vale School, Brockington College and Ashby School.

Year 7

Brookvale High School 7-1 Brockington College

Brookvale were able to take their tally of goals to 26 in just four games as they eased past Brockington College.

Year 8

Woodbrook Vale School 3-0 Wigston Academy

Woodbrook Vale didn't have things their own way, with a 3-0 scoreline not overly reflective of a fairly even match. The tie was far closer than Woodbrook's previous games, which saw them score 21 in two games.

Year 10

Brockington College 3-1 The City of Leicester College

The result matched each teams path to the final, with neither side picking up significant victories in the earlier rounds.

Year 11

Ashby School 2-0 The Market Bosworth School

In the closest of the lot, Ashby managed to see off The Market Bosworth School to round off the Team Leicestershire football.

Team Leicestershire is the umbrella Association for all traditional competitive school sport in secondary schools across Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland.
