Guidance on Reopening Sport and Physical Activity Facilities

With lockdown restrictions gradually easing following new government advice, it's essential that those responsible for the operation of sport and physical activity facilities pro-actively plan for their safe reopening in line with professional advice.

To support facility operators across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland we'll be collating the latest guidance from government, as well as sports sector bodies – such as Sport England, UK Active and others – to help signpost to helpful guidance and other resources.

Why it's important

Although access to facilities is likely to resume in the near future, it's key that they do so in a safe and appropriate manner to remain within current guidance, protect facility users and build confidence in the sport and physical activity community.

Abiding by reopening advice will likely involve changes in signage, cleanliness and hygiene as well as potential adaptations to the activities themselves – such as changes in coaching methods, timings or group sizes amongst many other considerations. By reviewing the guidance available operators can plan for the safest, most effective and customer-friendly reopening possible.

Where to go now

Our Sports Organisation Support page is regularly updated to give local organisations the latest advice from a variety of sector leaders. From here you can access content applicable to a variety of settings – including leisure centres, independent gyms, community centres, village halls and private sports club sites.

If you're unable to find the guidance you're looking for please contact our Sports Facilities Development Officer, Joe Hall, at j.hall@lrsport.org and we'll seek to identify further resources.
