BBC Unsung Hero Awards 2020: Final week to nominate

The BBC are searching for volunteers who have gone above and beyond to enable sports clubs to make a positive impact in their local communities during this unprecedented year.

BBC Director of Sport, Barbara Slater, said: "Unsung Hero is about honouring the people who show up rain or shine to inspire people to take part in grassroots sports and make a real difference in their local area.

The introduction of the Captain Tom Young Unsung Hero award will specifically celebrate those young people who have gone to extraordinary lengths for their communities through sport. This award is named in honour of the incredible Captain Sir Tom Moore, who has raised £38.9m for NHS charities.

The 2020 awards are being officially supported by 'Made By Sport', the national campaign which is partnering with the Sport for Development Coalition. Made By Sport is a four-year campaign championing the power of sport to change lives and raising vital funds for organisations that are using sport to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

As well as this, the awards have teamed up with BBC local Radio's Make a Difference campaign to shout about those who have helped and continue to help their local community during Covid-19. This could be an amazing opportunity to spread the message of positive change in your area whilst acknowledging how much volunteers are valued in all aspects of sport development.

Nomination is simple:

Tell the BBC why your nominee deserves to be the Unsung Hero or Young Unsung Hero.

Entries can be either video or written submissions via the website or email. Video entries should be one or two minutes long and written entries should be 500-800 words.

To be eligible for the Young Unsung Hero, nominees should be aged 15 or under.

The winner of the awards will be drawn from a list of 15 regional finalists – 12 English regions and then individual winners for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

For more information about the award, judging, and how the BBC handle your data, read their terms and privacy notice here.

Make your nomination for either award before midnight on Sunday 25 October 2020, as nominations cannot be accepted after this time.
