A local Leicestershire-based sports club, Winstanley Wizards Table Tennis Club, have recently been named Runner-Up in the 2020/21 Pride of Table Tennis Awards in the 'Club of the Year' category. Table Tennis England received more than 150 nominations for the award categories and the winners and runner up's were chosen by the national judging panel.
The Pride of Table Tennis national awards recognises the amazing commitment given to table tennis by unsung heroes in so many areas, from coaching and inclusivity to officiating and volunteering. It is also a chance for Table Tennis England to highlight and thank those partners, clubs, leagues and schools who deliver table tennis and make it easier for people to enjoy and flourish in the sport. Plus, in what has been an unprecedented year, it is important now more than ever to celebrate and honour the incredible efforts of those shining lights and beacons of hope within the table tennis community.
John Greening of Winstanley Wizards TT Club, commented saying "The club was delighted when our nomination had been accepted and even more so when we were shortlisted in the final three for the Club of the Year Category. For a relatively small club it is a considerable achievement. Covid has been and still is an influencing factor in sport, not least of all in table tennis, where we were and still are faced with challenging regulations. At one stage we were one of only two clubs in Leicester able to operate junior table tennis."
A big congratulations to the club, who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to ensure everyone has access to play and learn table tennis within Leicestershire & Leicester. To find out more about the club and get involved, visit their Facebook page here.
