To achieve the charter from the Royal College of General Practitioners, the surgeries worked in partnership with Active Together and the Active Harborough team to reduce sedentary behaviour and increase physical activity levels in staff and patients.
Staff in both locations have been encouraged to be active by building physical activity into their working day. The surgeries ran an activity challenge for staff during self-care week.
Healthcare staff from the surgery in Billesdon and the South Leicestershire Medical Group, located in Market Harborough, displayed promotional material for patients to find out about local physical activity opportunities and delivered a weekly walk for patients from the surgery.

Reception staff at the GP practice also joined the staff challenge and say:
"After having my two daughters , I hadn't been to the gym in years & got very out of shape and unfit. When the Gym Group in Oadby opened I decided it was time to join and start exercising again. It was hard when I first started and there were times where I really didn't look forward to going. Each time gets easier, and it has made a difference in how I feel physically and mentally. I am keeping determined and going to carry on pushing myself to reap the benefits.
I enjoyed doing the challenge set up at work, a little competition is always fun!"
