This report highlights the key social and economic factors that impact poor MSK health, including poverty, education, employment and environmental and dietary factors that discourage physical activity and a healthy diet. While the NHS can address some of these issues, it cannot alone eradicate inequalities in MSK health.

In 2023, ARMA conducted an inquiry into inequalities in MSK health related to deprivation. They gathered written oral evidence, including MSK services working to combat these disparities. The report highlights key social and economic factors contributing to poor MSK health: poverty, education, employment, and an environment that deters physical activity and health eating. It emphasises that whilst the NHS plays a crucial role, addressing these inequalities requires a multi-faceted approach beyond healthcare alone.
