This study explores the effects of Covid-19 on younger people and their physical activity levels outside of school. Findings highlighted that younger people are collectively spending most of their free time at home with a significant screen time.

A 2022 study revealed that the post-COVID generation of young people spent a considerable amount of time at home, limiting their real-life interactions. In 2023, data showed an even higher number of young people spending most of their time on screens at home. The cost of living affected their lives outside of school, causing 1.3 million of them to miss out on character-building activities. This crisis also took a toll on their mental wellbeing, resulting in high anxiety levels and concerns about their family's financial situation. The study emphasised the importance of valuing young people's time outside of education as much as their time in school. To address these challenges, the study suggests implementing youth centres and employing youth workers as key solutions.
