Sport England explore the reasons why women are less active than men. The latest statistics show that 63% of men are active compared to 59% of women, with men more likely to take part in higher intensity activities than women.

Overall, short workouts are appealing to women to help them fit activity into their lives. Women also say that certain sport environments can feel intimidating, especially for those who have had unpleasant past experiences.

The report explored the reasons why the gender gap exists across three key life stages; pregnancy, children and families and retirement.

This report is the first in a series of reports exploring the underlying reasons for the Active Lives Adults Survey.
