Asda Foundation U18 Better Starts Grant

This grant aims to help give children the best start in life, tackling poverty, inclusion and wellbeing.

About Asda Foundation U18 Better Starts Grant

The Under 18s Better Starts grant is one of three grants within the Asda Foundation 'Grassroots Grants' programme, their broadest grant programme which aims to empower their Community Champions and grassroots groups to apply for what's important in local communities.

The Under 18s Better Starts Grant is designed to support a broad range of activities for this age group, all of which can contribute towards empowering local community groups and improving the lives of children in the local area. The grant is designed to help give children the best start in life, tackling poverty, addressing inclusion and boosting wellbeing. Even within this specific age group, we know every community need is different and therefore we will support and fund what is needed and important to your community.

This grant is for groups who support solely under 18s in your community (for example, school holiday clubs and youth groups). If the activity being delivered benefits a mix of children and adults, then it would be an Empowering Local Communities Grant: please find details of this grant programme at https://www.asdafoundation.org/how-to-apply.

There are four options to choose from under this grant. You can apply for one option, or a combination:

  • Essentials: Funding for the basic essentials to address an immediate need and/or situation
  • Transform/Improve: Funding to transform and/or improve a space/activity.
  • Connect Together: Funding for bringing children together and encouraging community connections (this could include events or basic sports kit and equipment - £400 max)
  • Volunteering: Funding to support Volunteer costs enabling them to continue supporting their groups and communities

How much can I apply for and when?

  • Groups may apply for one Grassroots Grant per year, to a maximum value of £2,000 and minimum value of £400.
  • Round 2 applications may be submitted to your local Community Champion between 25th March – 24th May 2024, and activities must begin within six months of the application window closing date (i.e. by 1st September 2024).
  • Applications should be submitted to Asda Foundation at least 6 weeks before your activity to give enough processing time. Please give the Community Champion sufficient time.
