High Sheriff & The Mayor of  Hinckley and Bosworth of Leicestershire attends sports awards event

The High Sheriff of Leicestershire, Gordon Arthur, and his wife Janet, and the Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, Janice Richards and her husband Anthony were the special guests at this year's Hinckley and Bosworth Sports and Health Alliance Awards evening.

They were present at the event, which was held at the Bosworth Academy in Desford, to help celebrate the sporting achievements of the borough's clubs, individual players and volunteers.
Also present were Etoile Performing Arts who gave the opening display before moving onto the presentations. Hinckley and Bosworth's amazing record of volunteers in the borough being recognised five times in six year at the most prestigious sports award ceremony in Great Britain, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Show is unprecedented and is a great reflection of the outstanding volunteers we are honoured to have borough;

In 2010: AFC Barwell's secretary Karen Hollings was a regional finalist

In 2012: Jim and Sue Houghton from Sport in Desford won the East Midlands Award and at the Excel Centre in London received the National Award in front of our 2012 Olympians received a standing ovation and met the Duchess of Cambridge.

In 2013: Colin Magee, Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Sailing Association and one of our Sportivate Coaches won the East Midlands Award and went to the national awards at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Show at the Leeds Arena

In 2014 Jill Stidever, Disability Swimming Coach, won the East Midlands Unsung Hero award and then went to Glasgow to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards show and won the national award.

In 2015 Harry Matty was a finalist in the East Midlands region and we can see his film which was shown on East Midlands Today last week.

To celebrate this last years Unsung hero winner Jill Stidever shared her experience of the show and of her 50+ years of volunteering.
