Fairfield are In2Hockey County Champions

Fairfield Preparatory School's U11 boys' and girls' hockey teams are celebrating a double victory which saw both teams crowned Leicestershire & Rutland In2Hockey County Champions.

The County Finals took place on Tuesday 15th March at Leicester Grammar School. Spurred on by some superb results throughout the season, the girls' team got off to a flying start in their opening game against Dixie Grammar, playing some excellent attacking hockey and securing a 5-0 victory. Players displayed productive teamwork and aggressive attacking play to end the second game against Ratcliffe College with the same scoreline.

Their opponents in the final, Leicester Grammar, had won their matches with similar ease, but with the title up for grabs, Fairfield worked hard for each other and opened the scoring inside the first two minutes of play and adding four more goals to earn a 5-0 victory.

The boys opened in similar style with a 5-0 win against Leicester Grammar. Dixie Grammar proved more challenging opponents in the second pool game which ended in a goalless draw, seeing Fairfield progress on goal difference.

The semi-final was played against a Ratcliffe College side that had beaten Fairfield in a recent IAPS competition. From the whistle the boys showed great teamwork and individual skill to earn a 4-0 win. The final was played against Oakham who had beaten Dixie on sudden-death penalty flicks. Fairfield started brightly and continued to pass the ball effectively and purposefully. Strength in defence and clinical finishing in front of goal resulted in a 3-0 win for Fairfield.

Both teams will now represent Leicestershire and Rutland at the Midlands finals in April.
