School Games continues with Primary Sportshall at Loughborough University

Following the first Leicester-Shire & Rutland School Games final of the year, Primary Sportshall is next up for youngsters across the area.

10 primary schools will meet, with Year 5 & 6 pupils battling it out in a range of activities at Loughborough University. In addition to the main prize, there will also be a 'Spirit of the Games' award to recognise those who have impressed in other ways, such as showing a sporting and fair side.

Representing not only their schools but also their districts, the teams will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of potential back-to-back winners, St Peter's. They finished narrowly ahead of second placed Gartree, who will also be returning in the hope of going one better this time around.

Open to primary schools, Primary Sportshall is one of nine events throughout the school year, with the Spring and Summer Championships the highlights of 2017. With 84% of primary schools playing their part in the 2015/16 games, the ambition is for 2016/17 to see even more schools and youngsters getting involved.

The 10 teams taking part are

  • Badgerbrook
  • Shepshed High School
  • Latimer Primary School
  • St Peter's CofE Primary School
  • St John Fisher Catholic Voluntary Academy
  • Holy Cross Catholic Primary School
  • Brownlow Primary
  • Broom Leys
  • Gartree
  • (Rutland team TBC)
