All Teams 'Victorious' at Our First WPC Competition of the Year

The Workplace Challenge Competition programme kicked off on Thursday with 'Victorious Volleyball' at Rushey Mead Academy. 8 teams took part from workplaces across Leicestershire and all battled it out to be crowned champion.

The night kicked off at 6pm with the group stages. Thermo Fisher Scientific demonstrated their skill winning their first game against Leicester City Council 23-3. Their winning streak continued, defeating every team that they played in the groups and entering the quarter finals in joint 1st with North West Leicestershire School Sport Partnership who had battled it out with their closest rivals, Leicester Royal Infirmary Physiotherapists, both seeing wins in the group stage.

The quarter finals saw a mix up of teams. Ashmount School's A team picked up their highest score of the competition yet against NWL SSP, although it still wasn't quite enough to put them through to the semi-final. However, Gateway College and De Lisle College played strongly and joined the competition favourites NWL SSP and Thermo Fisher Scientific in the semis. The competition between teams reached an all-time high at this point, with Gateway and De Lisle doing all they could to put them into the final and keep out of the 3rd/4th place playoff. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and NWL SSP and Thermo Fisher had a clear streak into the final. In possibly the tightest game of the evening, with some exceptional rallies, NWL SSP took the win, 13-12. And even with the determination of Gateway to get their hands on the 3rd place prize of a Workplace Challenge water bottle, De Lisle stole the win.

Final results as they stood:

1st - North West Leicestershire School Sport Partnership

2nd - Thermo Fisher Scientific

3rd - De Lisle College

4th – Gateway

Congratulations must also go to our four runners up: Ashmount School A and B teams, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester City Council.
