GO GOLD Athlete of the Week: Daisy Platts

For some young athletes, it's easy to see what might come in the future. Either through poor workrate or attitude, talented athletes tend to disappear from the chance of sporting greatness at an early age.

But that's not the way Daisy Platts' sporting journey seems to be heading. Having qualified for Olympic trials in the 200m backstroke, the Blaby based athlete continues to impress as her personal bests are improving time and time again.

She took time out of the pool to open up on life as an athlete and opened up on why she wants to be a dolphin.

1. What's the best thing that your sport has enabled you to do?

It has allowed me to meet new people and make loads of new friends.

2. What's your favourite day of the week? Why?

Friday, as it's the last day of school and I have training once in the morning (Saturday) and dancing in the evening, which is different from every other day of the week.

3. What is your biggest goal?

My biggest goal is to achieve the 2020/24 Olympic Games.

4. If not a professional athlete, what job do you want to have when you're older?

For a future career I would like to go into something in sport, possibly a swimming coach or a PE teacher.

5. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I would be a dolphin as they live under the sea and are happy and friendly around humans and with other animals.

6. Do you have anything else that you'd like us to know?

I am very much looking forward to racing in 2 weeks' time at British Championships, Pond Forge where I have qualified for 4 events.
