Team Leicestershire’s super Sunday as basketball takes centre court

In a packed Sunday schedule, the Team Leicestershire basketball finals provided a flurry of entertainment at the Leicester Community Sports Arena.

Held at the home venue of Leicester Riders, one of the most successful sides in British basketball, schools from around the area progressed to the finals through earlier rounds. And that provided the chance to battle it out for medals, trophies and pride.

Running throughout the day, young people from primary school ages up to Year 11 took to the court in search of success, with a series of finals not allowing the action to stop for a moment. The series of finals were the perfect opportunity for spectators to enjoy a day courtside, with a big number of parents and supporters adding to the atmosphere.

Six separate schools picked up trophies in the age finals, with Rawlins picking up three victories on an impressive day for the Charnwood school.

Notable results included a single point win for Rushey Mead over Rawlins Academy, with a 48-47 score line incredibly harsh on the beaten finalists. Elsewhere there were big wins Belvoir High School and Sir Jonathan North Community College. The most points came in the Year 11 Boys final though, with 118 going in the favour of Humphrey Perkins, with a 63-55 victory over Beauchamp College.
