GO GOLD Athlete of the Week: Adam Wilkes

Having won the 100m Backstroke for his age group at ASA English Nationals last summer, the City of Leicester swimmer is starting to make his mark, already ranking well for the British Summer Nationals in a couple of months.

Adam took time out of his busy training schedule to talk to us about all things swimming, films and flying.

1. Who would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

Either Bear Grylls, because he knows how to survive, or Richard Branson, because he has boats, planes and his own island!

2. What is your favourite film and why?

The Hobbit films, because they are cool films with a great plot and awesome sound and visuals

3. What is your favourite type of training session?

Sprints with long rests. You might think it would be recovery sessions but I find them boring.

4. If you could be any animal what would you be and why?

A honey badger, because they are fierce. Or an otter, because they like to play in the water and have fun.

5. Ever met anyone famous?

Roberto Pavoni - Olympic swimmer; Liam Tancock, backstroke world record holder; Leicester Tigers Team, including a number of England players, like Toby Flood, Rory Underwood, Tom Croft, Dan Cole, Ben Kay, Lewis Moody and Martin Corry. (in 2008, I was a Leicester Tigers mascot for a match!)

6. Do you have anything else that you'd like us to know?

I'm learning to fly and have had more flying lessons than driving lessons so far! (although swimming and school work has stopped me having lessons at the moment). I'd like to be a pilot when I finish swimming.
