Vicky Park Queens Tournament Success!

At the end of November Vicky Park Queens held a 5-a-side football tournament at What A Goal, Leicester, with funding from Active Together to make this possible.

Vicky Park Queens are a Leicester based football club, established in April 2021, for women and non-binary people. Aiming to make a space for people who want to play football in a friendly space; they're open to beginners, people that haven't played football in a while and people who play regularly.

Their core values are to be a welcoming, fun, vocal and inclusive space for everyone who joins. The tournament was a reflection of this, with a sprinkling of on-pitch competitiveness.

This was the first tournament they've held and for many of the club, the first tournament they've been involved in. They had 24 players take part, forming 3 teams.

Emilia from Vicky Park Queens said "And what a dreamy day it was; all players having their moments shining on the pitch and all encouraging and celebrating each other.

Every team played each other twice and we saw glorious goals, beautiful passing, some spicy tackles and a few cries for penalties to keep us on our toes. Finishing up with a joyous awards ceremony to celebrate how each team fared, our top scorer, the golden glove and our player's player.

More than football, it was a celebration of the community we're building, everyone bringing themselves and creating the special, diverse, safe space it is.

Thanks again to Active Together for helping us hold the tournament. Watch this space for a tournament in 2024 where we hope to bring together more teams across the Midlands."

Congratulations for a fantastic event!
