Team Leicestershire: Badminton Finals (2023/24)

During March, we hosted our KS3 and KS4 Team Leicestershire County Badminton Finals at the Babington Academy. These County Badminton Finals are one of our EXCEL events. Excel events are all about giving young people the opportunity to compete and strive to be the best they can be. All teams had won their local area badminton league to reach this stage of the competition. Congratulations and thank you to every school that attended, the standard of badminton played over the course of the week was outstanding, as was the spirit and sporting values demonstrated by all participants, team managers and spectators.

There were 7 teams in each of the Boys and Girls age groups. The teams were divided into 2 groups to play round-robin matches, with the top 2 teams going on to play in the semi-finals. From there, a final and third place play-off match was contested. The group matches were all highly competitive, with several matches going all the way to 20-20 before being won by a single point. Throughout each competition, all teams should be commended for their determination and resilience, all teams trying their best until the very last point. The teamwork and tactical play during the doubles matches was a particular highlight for those watching on.
