The Active Charnwood team partnered with the Loughborough College Community ESOL group (English for Speakers of Other Languages), to deliver weekly physical activity opportunities to a group of female ESOL learners. These activities and sports varied on a weekly basis.
These women often face a number of socio-economic barriers to participating in exercise and COVID-19 has exacerbated the health inequalities within their communities.
These regular sessions boosted the women's confidence and self-esteem as well as built a strong sense of community between the women which continued beyond the structed sessions.
This Case Study is taken from the Active Together Annual Review 21/22. The document provides a snapshot of the work of the Active Together Board, team and partners and what we have done in partnership to encourage the communities in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to be physically active and move more.
