This case study highlights Oadby Walking Group and their work in creating a community where people can belong while improving their mental and physical health.

Active Oadby and Wigston's volunteer-led walking group has gone from strength to strength. Walkers range from those referred by GP surgeries' Social Prescribers, to those who have heard about the walk via Active Oadby and Wigston's community engagement pop-up events.

The outcome has been a sense of belonging for all walkers, many of whom experience challenging mental health or long-term conditions. All participants said the group had helped them become more active and 88% either strongly agreed or agreed they had gained more confidence overall.

This Case Study is taken from the Active Together Annual Review 21/22. The document provides a snapshot of the work of the Active Together Board, team and partners and what we have done in partnership to encourage the communities in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to be physically active and move more.
