GO GOLD Athlete of the Week: April Tacey

As an already experienced cyclist, April Tacey works tirelessly around her college to compete all over the world. The journey takes us through her training regime, proudest achievements and the things April loves most!

1. Describe your typical day (including training, school, etc.).

My typical day starts off with biking to Loughborough College which is around 8 miles, so 16 miles in total. On rainy days though I do tend to catch the bus or get a lift from my parents, hopefully soon I'll be able to drive myself when I pass my driving and theory test. At College I am currently studying a Level 3 BTEC in Sport, fitness and coaching. I am in my first year and so far I am really enjoying learning more about sport particularly as I can relate it to my cycling!

I train 5-6 times a week on my bike but it does vary depending on whether I have a race on. I also do strength and conditioning work either at home or in the gym. Some of my training sessions include roller or turbo efforts which I do in my kitchen, its also a great way to train if the weather is really bad.

2. What is your favourite thing about your sport?

Cycling has helped to keep me fit and healthy. I particularly enjoy training around my local countryside, I enjoy the freedom and space to capture my thoughts.

3. How would your friends describe you?

My friends would describe me as funny, loud and kind-hearted.

4. What's the best thing that your sport has enabled you to do?

Cycling has enabled me to travel all over the UK and oversees whilst competing Regionally, Nationally and Internationally. I have met lots of people through my sport and have developed some great friendships.

5. What is your proudest accomplishment (doesn't have to be sport related)?

My proudest moment was when I won the Bourne Junior Women's road race last July. It was my 1st year as a Junior rider so races were a lot longer and tougher than I was previously used too. I was super pleased when I attacked with 3 mile to go and I won :)

6. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?

I would love to travel to Australia as I enjoy the warm sunny weather, hopefully one day I will get to ride the tour down under!

7. Do you have anything else that you'd like us to know?

I feel incredibly lucky to have the support of the Go Gold program and I just want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for your continued support.
