Inspire others to be physically active by becoming a local Champion!

The COVID-19 pandemic, and subsequent lockdown, has had an impact on all walks of life, but many people have used it as an opportunity to find new and innovative ways to be active, despite facilities such as gyms, parks, and leisure centres being inaccessible. For many, it's meant exploring their local area for walks and bike rides, finding new places to exercise right on their doorstep, using space at home to join in with virtual exercise classes, or spending time with family playing in the garden. As lockdown eases in some areas, many people are continuing to stay active in ways that feel safe and enjoyable for them, whether that means returning to leisure centres and gyms, continuing to be active outdoors in their local area, or taking active travel options to work and school.

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) are looking for local Champions (families and individuals) to be the face of our new movement, Active Together, by telling their story about how they have stayed active throughout lockdown (and beyond as restrictions ease), including what has motivated them, and how they have overcome any barriers that might have stopped them from being active.

Champions will feature on our social media, and also have the opportunity to be part of an offline and radio campaign, as part of the promotion of Active Together across Leicester-Shire & Rutland.

If you, your family, or someone you know, have a story to tell that you think would inspire and motivate others to become more physically active, please complete the short template attached to the bottom of this page, and accompanying consent form, and return via email with some images of you being active to b.cornish@lrsport.org with the subject title 'Local Champion'.

Please feel free to forward this link on to any partners, organisations, individuals, and communities that you work with who may be able to support our county and city-wide search for local Champions.
