Purposeful Physical Play - 2 training dates remaining

Purposeful Physical Play Training sets to enable our youngest generation to be more active

Purposeful Physical Play is an early years training programme funded through Leicestershire County Council's Public Health Department.

Leicestershire County Council's Public Health department in collaboration with Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport (LRS) are hoping to inspire our youngest generation to become more active in order to benefit their health and well-being. The training programme aims to work with early years settings in the seven districts across Leicestershire to ensure that children get the best start in life.

The free training is for Early Years Practitioners to enable them to promote and deliver effective purposeful play and physical development programmes to children aged 0-5 years. Two training dates are remaining – 3rd November and 8th December 2015.

This is in response to the strong evidence that there are very low levels of physical activity, surprisingly high levels of impaired physical development and high levels of sedentary behaviour with young children. This project aims to transform this situation and demonstrate that parents and all early years' settings in Leicestershire can make a huge difference in getting young children to be far more active on a daily basis.

The recommended level of daily physical activity for pre-school children (who are capable of walking unaided) is 180 minutes. Some settings in Leicestershire in co-operation with parents have shown that they can achieve this so we want to ensure that all settings and parents can achieve this level.

One practitioner who has attended the training said "The training is excellent. It gives many practical ideas to take back to the setting, with lots of facts to prove why physical activity is important."
